| Statistics | The Esther Foundation deals with statisitics from many areas of concern within the community. Some of these concerns are young women that have suffered sexual and physical abuse, have chronic eating disorders, suffer depression or suicidal ideation, self harm, have involved themselves with drug and alcohol abuse, become pregnant as a teenager or suffer due to family breakdown. Statistically, we are talking about 9/10 young women suffering from these concerns some time in their life. Our program deals with all of these issues, issues that effect millions of young women across Australia each year. |
| News | The Esther Program has had extensive media coverage from both print and electronic media; including separate documentaries by The George Negus Show on ABC and an SBS documentary that was nine months in the making. Both documentaries were very positive and aired on national television. George Negus stating that Patricia was “..an angel on Earth”.
In addition to this, Esther has featured on the front page of Saturdays ‘West Australian’, amongst other stories within that paper and has also appeared several times within the Sunday Times and Community Newspapers. All stories featured were from a very positive and encouraging perspective.
Patricia Lavater, Director and Founder of The Esther Foundation, was the recipient of ‘The Pride of Australia Medal 2006’ for the category of ‘Role Model’ in the community. Patricia Lavater and The Esther Foundation were also nominated for separate awards in the 2006 Community Service Industry Awards here in Western Australia.
Community: The Esther Foundation has operated seven houses in the same street in South Perth for many years. Over this time there has never been any complaint to Council, Police or any agency with regard to our organisations program and the residential housing of young women in recovery. In fact, over twelve years of operation within the community we have only received support and encouragement from neighbours and local community groups.
Our successful existence in the community we feel is drawn from the measure of our community focus, tightly structured program and strict policy on negative behaviours and attitudes within the program.
As a safe environment for women, Esther lends itself as a place of peace and rest for all participants of the program; whether they are a pregnant teenage girl or someone escaping domestic violence. With the specific type of issues that are being addressed at Esther, it is integral that the atmosphere within the residences remain quiet and low key.
The City Of South Perth have been nothing but supportive of our organisations work, with Mayor Collins and Councillors attending concerts and fundraising events as special guests.
Overview: The Esther Foundation Incorporated has established itself for more than a decade as an organisation successfully existing in the community without any financial support from the Government. In fact, the organisation has expanded its operations extensively over recent years and has also increased its profile significantly in the community with no marketing or advertising.
The positive profile that the Esther Program holds within the community has been highlighted simply through its work with young women in crisis and the remarkable success stories that have resulted from that work. The program has been commended by many government and non-government agencies and is supported by many business and Governmental leaders within our community.
With this good standing, it would be hoped that The Esther Foundation continue to be viewed favourably when considered for community, business and government support; partnership with its projects, and with its continued vision to assist and support young women’s health and development here in Western Australia.
